Previous places of work

1970–1994 — the Institute of Chemistry of High-Purity Substances of the Russian Academy of Sciences, where he rose from junior research fellow to head of a large laboratory; since 1994, at the Institute of Applied Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. His main scientific interests were connected with research into two-phase methods for producing volatile substances of exceptional purity — starting materials for microelectronics, fiber optics, nuclear technology and other applications. He made a substantial contribution to the theory and practice of the deep purification of substances by rectification and countercurrent crystallization from a melt. In his laboratory, universal high-capacity rectification apparatuses were built and tested at an organized pilot production facility, providing, in a single technological cycle, highly effective purification of substances both from molecularly dissolved impurities and from those present as a micro-dispersed phase.

From 1994 he broadened the scope of his professional interests, taking up research into the production of volatile and fluid media for nonlinear optics (based at the Institute of Applied Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences). This research established the range of limiting impurities in nonlinear media and the level of impurity sensitivity of their target properties. A scientific base and techniques were created for producing volatile media of exceptional purity for nonlinear optics — a new class of high-purity substances. He is currently engaged in research to improve the process of growing water-soluble single crystals for wide-aperture nonlinear-optical converters of laser radiation using methods of nonlinear acoustics. The work lies at the intersection of the chemistry of exceptionally pure substances and two disciplines of nonlinear physics.

Key facts of his career

He holds 11 inventions, 6 of which were put into practice at enterprises of the USSR's Ministries of Non-Ferrous Metallurgy, Chemical Industry and Electronics Industry in small- and medium-scale production of exceptionally pure substances. He is the author of about 100 publications in domestic and international scientific periodicals. Under V.I. Rodchenkov's scientific supervision, 3 candidate dissertations were defended.

Corresponding Member of the International Slavic Academy. Member of the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences on the Chemistry of High-Purity Substances. Chairman of the State Certification Commission for the "Electronics and Microelectronics" specialization (Department of Physics and Technology of Materials and Components of Electronic Engineering at Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University n.a. R.E. Alekseev). Inventor of the USSR. Laureate of the Gorky Komsomol Prize (1977).

Hobbies

Paper model airplanes, summer fishing, powerboat and sailing tourism; he pilots motorboats and yachts, flies hang gliders and motorized hang gliders, and is skilled in glassblowing and locksmithing.
