Viktor Vasilyevich Agudov (born October 13, 1931) — head of the "History and Philosophy of Science" section of the faculty for training highly qualified specialists at Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University n.a. R.E. Alekseev. Doctor of Philosophical Sciences, professor.

Biography

From 1948 to 1956 he served in the navy, retiring with the rank of lieutenant commander (reserve).

Education

Faculty of Philosophy of Lomonosov Moscow State University, 1962. His doctoral dissertation, "The category of 'structure' in its interaction with the law of the transition of quantitative changes into qualitative ones," was defended in 1984. He is a product of the historical logical-methodological scholarly school of the Faculty of Philosophy of Lomonosov Moscow State University (professors V.F. Asmus, V.S. Molodtsov, I.S. Narsky, A.A. Zinoviev).

Main areas of scholarly work

Methodology of scientific research, dialectical and formal logic in their interaction within scientific cognition, contemporary ontology, and the history of science and technology. A continuing focus on developing a system of philosophical (universal) laws and categories as ontological and methodological-epistemological in their functional unity, and on substantiating a third, most fundamental and universal type of law (alongside the previously known dynamic and statistical types) — the Law of Functional Mutual Correspondence. He is currently developing a new general graduate course (for candidate examinations) — "History and Philosophy of Science" — which analyzes the overall evolution of science (megascience) from antiquity to the twentieth century in its relationship to universal history and other forms of social consciousness — art, religion, politics, and so on. Author of about 100 publications — scholarly articles, teaching aids, textbooks for undergraduate and graduate students, and monographs. Under V.V. Agudov's scholarly supervision, a candidate's dissertation has been defended. Full member of the Russian Academy of Social Sciences. Member of the regional branch of the Russian Philosophical Society. Member of the regional branch of the RUSO society.
