The estate of merchant N. P. Vagin — a monument of urban planning and architecture of regional significance on Ilyinskaya Street in Nizhny Novgorod, built in the 1860s. The history of the site can be traced back to 1851, when it held a small wooden house on a stone foundation and a shop, both belonging to merchant N. P. Vagin.[1]
Composition of the ensemble
The estate comprises two buildings: a two-story main house and a one-story wing at Ilyinskaya Street, 42A, forming a single architectural ensemble.[2][3] The wing is a non-residential building with an area of 143.2 square meters.[1]
Current condition and the 2024 auction
In November 2024, the estate's wing was put up for auction. Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Yegor Polyakov announced this on his Telegram channel.[1] The starting auction price was 7,307,700 rubles, with bids accepted until December 9, 2024.[1] Under the terms of the purchase agreement, the investor is required to carry out the restoration of the building within three years.[2]
Recent developments
On January 12, 2025, a fire broke out at the estate. The blaze was extinguished over an area of 250 square meters; one person died, and rescuers led two injured people out of the building using special masks. Investigators from the Russian Emergencies Ministry (EMERCOM) were determining the cause of the fire.[3]
