The VTsSPS Sanatorium is a year-round climatic resort located in the forest-park zone of the resort settlement of Zelenyy Town, 35 km from Nizhny Novgorod. It has been in operation for more than 50 years and specializes in the treatment and prevention of diseases using local mineral waters and therapeutic muds.[1]

Location and Infrastructure

The health resort occupies an area of about 16–30 hectares in a mixed coniferous and deciduous forest park.[2][3] Accommodation is provided in a seven-story building and in freestanding cottages; the sanatorium can host up to 430 guests at a time, including children from the age of 4.[2] The grounds include an indoor swimming pool, a bathhouse complex, a spa center, a hammam, a gym, a cinema and concert hall and a conference hall, a banquet hall, a bar, a hairdresser, a library, a shooting range, billiards, a table tennis area, and a soccer field.[4][3] There is also a sports equipment rental point (skis, ice skates, sleds, bicycles, roller skates) and an excursion bureau.[4]

Treatment

The main therapeutic factors are mineral waters from the sanatorium's own wells — "Gorkovskaya 1" and "Gorkovskaya 2" — and sulfide silt muds from the Shatki deposit.[4] The treatments applied include physiotherapy, various types of massage and underwater showers, hydromassage baths, therapeutic exercise, dry carbon dioxide baths, colon irrigation with mineral water, inhalations, speleotherapy, paraffin therapy, herbal medicine and dietary therapy, hirudotherapy, magnetic and electrotherapy, and climatotherapy.[2][3]

The treatment profile covers diseases of the digestive system, metabolic disorders (compensated diabetes mellitus, obesity), diseases of the musculoskeletal system, kidneys, cardiovascular and nervous systems, respiratory organs, ENT organs, skin and gynecological diseases, allergic rhinitis, and hay fever.[1][3] Meals are four or five a day, dietary, on a made-to-order system.[4][2]

Management

Since 1997 the sanatorium has been headed by Rashidov Abdurakhman Zapirovich, director and chief physician, Honored Physician of the Russian Federation.
