Universam "Nizhegorodsky" — a self-service store in Gorky. This is a stub: the exterior photographs are dated 1972. The exact address, the opening date, and the later fate of the building require clarification. The universam is located at 41 Piskunov Street, Nizhegorodsky District of Nizhny Novgorod; the building's total area is 7,000 sq. m, with 6,500 sq. m of retail space. The legal entity that owns the building is the joint-stock company Universam "Nizhegorodsky"; its principal shareholder is Parma Company LLC, 100% of whose charter capital belongs to the businessman Andrey Klimentyev and his wife Irina. Besides the universam building in the center of Nizhny Novgorod, Universam "Nizhegorodsky" JSC owned a four-story shopping center in Voronezh; both properties were leased out.
In 2016, bankruptcy proceedings were opened against Universam "Nizhegorodsky" JSC (case No. A43-12156/2016): the tax inspectorate's claims against the debtor exceeded 70 million rubles, and its debts to other government bodies came to about 30 million rubles more. On the land plot next to the universam stands the two-story café "Vkus i dym" ("Taste and Smoke"), about 400 sq. m in area; in January 2023 the city authorities demanded its demolition, but in 2025 the commercial court (arbitrazh court) refused to order demolition, requiring only that the structure be moved deeper into the courtyard, off the neighboring land.[3][2][2][2][1]
