The unfinished shopping center on Fedoseenko Street is an abandoned facility in the Sormovsky District of Nizhny Novgorod, built on commission from the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation near the "Voyenny Gorodok" stop. Construction was frozen more than twenty years ago; in August 2026 the building was declared subject to demolition.[1]
Description of the site
The site retains a two-story brick building and reinforced-concrete structures facing the road — apparently intended for glazing. Construction of a third floor had begun at one time at the rear of the building. The roof is effectively absent, replaced by scattered floor slabs. The brickwork has crumbled over the years of standstill, and the walls are riddled with decay. The territory of the unfinished building is not fenced off; the interior walls are covered in graffiti.[2]
Declared unsafe and negotiations over its fate
The building is federal property. By agreement with the Ministry of Defence, the Nizhny Novgorod Region arranged an engineering inspection of the structures. Specialists identified violations of strength characteristics and concluded that demolition was necessary.[1] Regional authorities are negotiating with the federal agency over transferring the site into regional ownership — a condition for carrying out the demolition. At the same time, the fate of eight other unfinished residential buildings linked to the Ministry of Defence is under discussion: six of them are located on the same Fedoseyenko Street, and two near Lyadov Square. It is proposed that seven of the unfinished residential buildings, whose structures allow construction to continue, be completed with the involvement of an investor. As of August 2026, no final decision had been made by the Ministry of Defence.[2]
Residents' position
Residents of the Sormovsky District favor demolishing the abandoned shopping center. Among the preferred uses proposed for the vacated land are a sports ground or a compact residential building. In reviews on the "2GIS" service, residents describe the site as an "unfinished building turned into a dump" that has stood for more than twenty years.[2]
