Starkovka was a historical stream that flowed along the bottom of one of the ravines of the The Dyatlov Mountains in the Upper Part. Along with the Gremyachy Klyuch and the Bezymyanny Spring), it was part of the drainage network of the Bolshiye Ovragi district.
Location
The plateau of the slopes of the Dyatlov Hills rises 80–120 meters above the Oka, and the ravines themselves stretch hundreds of meters inland from the river. Streams and rivulets once flowed along the bottoms of these old ravines: the Gremyachy Klyuch, the Starkovka, and the Bezymyanny Klyuch. The steep and rugged terrain made the district difficult to develop, so city streets appeared here considerably later than in other parts of historic Nizhny.
Present state
The fate of the Starkovka is similar to that of the other small watercourses of the city's upland part: in the course of urban development most such streams were hidden in underground culverts or lost entirely.
