Shakhunya College of Agricultural Industry (ShKAI) is a state-funded vocational educational institution in the town of Shakhunya, Nizhny Novgorod Region, founded in 1941.[2] It is one of the oldest secondary vocational schools in the region, specializing in training personnel for agriculture and related industries.[2] It is located at 15 Turgenev Street.[1]
Educational Activities
The college offers programs in the following broad groups of specialties: agriculture, forestry, and fisheries; veterinary medicine and animal husbandry; construction engineering and technology; computer science and computing; ground transportation engineering and technology; and economics and management.[4] Among the most in-demand fields of study are the operation and repair of agricultural machinery and equipment, veterinary medicine, agricultural production foreman, food technology from plant-based raw materials, electrical systems in the agro-industrial complex, software development and management, and economics and accounting.[3][4] As of 2026, about 275–277 state-funded places are available across 8–11 programs, with admission mainly after 9th grade.[2][5] The college has a dormitory. It also has a Sharanga branch, whose students take part in cultural and educational events; in 2022, for example, they visited the Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in the selo of Rozhentsovo, in the Sharanga church district.[6][2]
Infrastructure and Status
ShKAI hosts a resource center for agriculture and a multifunctional center for applied qualifications; a pilot site for the network-based delivery of core vocational education programs; a regional innovation site of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Ministry of Education in the field of "Agriculture and Agricultural Sciences"; and a training ground for WorldSkills Russia olympiads and championships in the competency "Agricultural Machinery Operation."[3] The college is a base site of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth Policy of Nizhny Novgorod Region for agricultural secondary vocational professions and specialties, as well as an internship site of the Nizhny Novgorod Institute for Education Development.[3] It also has workshops created under the federal project "Young Professionals" and a training center under the federal project "Employment Promotion" of the national project "Demography."[3]
Federal Project "Professionalitet"
ShKAI is part of the "Nizhny Novgorod Agricultural Cluster," an educational and production cluster within the federal project "Professionalitet."[3] The cluster's partner enterprises are Moloko JSC, Khmelevitsy JSC, the Novy Put agricultural production cooperative, and Vskhody LLC.[1] The partner colleges are Uren Industrial and Energy Technical School, Semyonov Industrial and Art Technical School, and Sokolskiy Technical School of Service Industry and Entrepreneurship.[3]
Licenses and Rankings
Educational license: No. L035-01281-52/00211820, dated June 10, 2019; certificate of state accreditation: 52A01 0001474 No. 2397, dated December 28, 2015.[4] In the national ranking of secondary vocational education graduate employment in the "Agriculture" sector, the college ranks 37th out of 271 institutions with large graduating classes (overall score 0.97).[5] By size of state-funded enrollment, ShKAI ranks 1st among the colleges of Shakhunya and 41st among the 86 colleges of Nizhny Novgorod Region.[5]
