Kirienko Sergei Vladilenovich (born July 26, 1962) — head of the Central Agency for Atomic Energy.

Main Facts of Activity

Since 1986 he worked as a foreman at the Krasnoye Sormovo Plant. He was secretary of the plant's Komsomol (VLKSM) committee, then first secretary of the Gorky Obkom) of the Komsomol. In the late 1980s he became general director of the AMK youth concern. In March 1990 he was elected a deputy of the Gorky Regional Council of People's Deputies. From 1993 to 1996 he was chairman of the board of the “Garantiya” bank. From August 1994 he was a member of the Council on Industrial Policy and Entrepreneurship under the President of the Russian Federation. In 1996–1997 he was president of the oil company “NORSI-OIL”. He was recommended for the post by the Administration of Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Government of the Russian Federation.

On May 13, 1997 he was appointed first deputy minister of fuel and energy of the Russian Federation. From September 2, 1997 he was deputy chairman of the Government commission on coordinating the activities of federal executive authorities and the state authorities of the subjects of the Russian Federation in implementing production-sharing agreements. In October 1997 he was appointed head of the interdepartmental commission on the access of independent organizations to the gas transportation system of RAO “Gazprom”. From October 1997 he was a member of the board of state representatives at the “Transneft” joint-stock company. On November 20, 1997, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation, he was appointed Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation.

On August 23, 1998, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation, the Government of S. Kirienko was dismissed in its entirety. On November 26, 1998 he announced the creation of his own political movement. On December 18, 1998 the Russia-wide social-political movement “Conservative Movement “New Force”” was registered with the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, headed by Sergei Kirienko. In 1999 he was co-chairman and leader of the electoral bloc “Union of Right Forces” (on May 20, 2000, at the founding congress, the URF was transformed into a political organization). On May 18, 2000 he was appointed by President of the Russian Federation V. V. Putin as plenipotentiary representative of the head of state in the Volga Federal District.
