Skvortsov Sergey (born 2009, Semyonov, Nizhny Novgorod Region) — Russian ice hockey player, forward for Nizhny Novgorod's HC Torpedo. A product of the Nizhny Novgorod hockey school system, he became the top scorer of the junior club "Chayka" (MHL) in his debut season of 2025–2026, and has been playing in the Kontinental Hockey League since autumn 2026.[1][2]
Biography and Early Career
Sergey Skvortsov was born in Semyonov — a city of around 25,000 people in the Nizhny Novgorod Region. His father had played hockey at an amateur level, but it was his mother who enrolled four-year-old Sergey in a hockey section — secretly, while his father was away on a shift. When his father found out, he supported the choice and actively helped his son with training.[2]
Skvortsov began his athletic path at regional schools "Feniks" (Semyonov) and "Krasnye Krylya" (Nizhny Novgorod), and in 2019 joined the HC Torpedo system. At the main Nizhny Novgorod school he immediately assumed a leading role, consistently putting up around one hundred points per season. In the 2022/2023 season the forward set a personal scoring record: 195 points (118 goals + 77 assists) in 62 games.[2]
In the 2024/2025 season Skvortsov played in the Youth Hockey League in the Volga Region division among players born in 2007 or later, being two years younger than most of his opponents. Despite the age gap, he became Torpedo's leading scorer with 66 points in 35 games. The team claimed the championship title, defeating Ak Bars-Neftyanik in the final.[2]
MHL Season and Professional Contract
In the 2025/2026 season, Skvortsov made his debut at age 16 for the junior club Chayka in the Molodyozhnaya Hokkeynaya Liga (Junior Hockey League). Over 69 games he scored 28 goals and added 33 assists with a plus/minus rating of +21, topping the team's scoring charts. The forward entered the record books as one of the youngest players to score a hat-trick in the MHL playoffs and was named among the three nominees for the league's best rookie award.[1][2]
In May 2026, Skvortsov signed his first professional contract with HC Torpedo for three years. The club's general director Evgeniy Zabuga, commenting on the signing, noted that the Skvortsov name is legendary in Nizhny Novgorod hockey, and expressed confidence that the young forward would be able to make his KHL debut in the very next season.[1]
KHL Debut
On 5 September 2026, in the opening match of the 2026/27 season — the Kubok Pervykh (Cup of the Firsts) against Moscow's Spartak — 17-year-old Skvortsov made his Kontinental Hockey League debut and scored the game's only goal in the 18th minute of the first period, giving Torpedo a 1–0 victory. He became the second-youngest player in the Nizhny Novgorod club's history to score in the KHL.
Family and Interests
Sergey's older brother — Aleksandr Skvortsov (known by the nickname Skvorctsmen) — is a Russian champion in Muay Thai who, at the age of 28, has focused on coaching. Sergey also attended Muay Thai training sessions, though he has no intention of putting those skills to use in hockey games. In his spare time the forward pays attention to recovery, proper nutrition, and video games.[2]
