Russian New University (RosNOU) is an autonomous non-profit organization of higher education, founded in Moscow in 1991; the Nizhny Novgorod branch has operated since 1996 (from 1999 — as an independent licensed branch).[1][2] RosNOU is ranked among the top 100 of Forbes's Russian university rating and the rating of the "Expert RA" agency.[1][2]

Founding and structure of the university

The university was founded in 1991 by the Financial Academy under the Government of the Russian Federation, the Moscow State Law Academy, the State Academy of the Sphere of Everyday Life and Services, and the Russian State Medical University.[2] RosNOU is one of the founders of the Association of Non-State Law Universities and the Association of Non-State Higher Education Institutions of Russia (ANVUZ).[2] The university is located at: Moscow, Radio Street; the rector is Vladimir Alekseevich Zernov — Doctor of Technical Sciences, professor, chairman of ANVUZ.[2] In 2007, RosNOU and Microsoft signed a strategic cooperation agreement on the development of information technology in the education system as part of the Microsoft Education Alliance for 2007–2009.[2] On April 17, 2008, RosNOU, together with RGUTiS, founded the "Association of Universities of Tourism and Service," which united educational institutions, enterprises and organizations from 15 regions of Russia.[2] Since 2012, the university has been admitting students funded by the federal budget.[2]

Nizhny Novgorod branch: history and activities

The Nizhny Novgorod branch of RosNOU began operating in 1996 as a representative office, and since 1999 has been providing training under branch license No. 24-0004 dated 29.09.1999, in full-time, part-time, and correspondence forms of study.[1][2] The branch is located at: Nizhny Novgorod, Bolshaya Pecherskaya Street; the website is nfrosnou.ru.[1][2]

Faculty from leading Universities in Nizhny Novgorod are involved in the teaching process, including Lobachevsky University, as well as specialists from the field of management. Among the faculty are academicians V.P. Gavrilov and O.A. Kozlov, professors L.A. Zelenov and M.I. Mikhailov.[2]

Faculties and fields of study

The Nizhny Novgorod branch admits students to the following faculties:[2]

  • Law — "Jurisprudence" program (criminal law, civil law);
  • Finance and Economics — "Economics" program (accounting and audit, financial management and banking);
  • Social and Cultural Service and Tourism — "Social and Cultural Service and Tourism" specialty;
  • State and Municipal Administration.

Entrance examinations are conducted as written testing. For the Finance and Economics faculty — in mathematics, Russian language and a foreign language; for the Law, Social and Cultural Service and Tourism, and State and Municipal Administration faculties — in Russian history, Russian language and a foreign language.[2] Applications for full-time and part-time study are accepted from April 1 to September 1, and for correspondence study — from April 1 to October 1.[2] Full-time students are granted deferment from military service.[2] Accelerated programs lasting 2.5–3 years are available for those with higher or secondary specialized education.[2]
