Provincial architect — Russian Empire, existing in the provinces during the pre-revolutionary period. Nizhny Novgorod Province it was held by professional architects responsible for designing and supervising the construction of state and public buildings within the territory under their authority.
Notable Nizhny Novgorod provincial architects
Ivan Yefimov — an architect of the first half of the 19th century who held the post of provincial architect. He is known above all for his work Rozhdestvenskaya, which helped shape the appearance of the trade and administrative center of Nizhny Novgorod during the period of active masonry construction after 1824. In 1822, commissioned by first-guild merchant and city mayor Fyodor Petrovich Pereplyotchikov Fyodor Petrovich, Yefimov designed a two-story building with three wings on the even-numbered side at the start of Rozhdestvenskaya Street.
P. A. Dombrovsky — a provincial architect who worked in the early 20th century. He is best known as the author of the design for the Nizhny Novgorod Cathedral Mosque. In 1908 the Muslim community of the Starosoldatskaya Sloboda formed a committee for the construction of a Mohammedan mosque Upper Part of Nizhny Novgorod, and Dombrovsky developed the corresponding architectural design.
