The Oktyabrskaya Hotel is a three-star hotel in Nizhny Novgorod, located at 9A Verkhne-Volzhskaya Embankment, on the high bank of the Volga in the Historic Center of the city. It was built by decision of the City of Gorky authorities in 1985 to accommodate business-trip specialists working at the GAZ and Krasnoye Sormovo plants.

History and Renovation

Originally, the hotel's seven residential floors accommodated up to 250 guests. In 2005 the hotel was renovated: new entertainment areas were introduced at the expense of a reduced room count. After the completion of refurbishment works in 2007, the Oktyabrskaya was recognized as the best three-star hotel in the Russian Federation according to the National Prize of the Federal Agency for Tourism. In 2015 the hotel became a filming location for the television show Revizorro.

Architectural Context

Among professionals, the Oktyabrskaya is cited as an example of a context-sensitive approach to architecture: the building's appearance does not dominate the embankment's panorama but harmoniously complements the city's historic center.[1] The hotel is in close proximity to the Verkhne-Volzhskaya Embankment, the monument to Pyotr Nesterov, the Rukavishnikov Manor, the Church of the Skorbyashchenskaya Icon of the Mother of God, and Alexandrovsky Garden.[2]

Facilities and Services

The hotel has 92 rooms of various categories, including standard and deluxe rooms with views of the Volga. On the premises operates the Premier restaurant, serving Russian and European cuisine, as well as a lobby bar open around the clock. The business center has three conference halls of varying capacities and two banquet halls; the main building's conference hall seats up to 50 people. Additional amenities include a sauna, spa, massage room, fitness room, billiards, free parking, and a luggage storage room.[2] Guests of the hotel at various times have included singer Nadezhda Babkina, actor Valery Galkin, singer Valery Syutkin, and musician Konstantin Meladze.
