The Nizhny Novgorod Technical Museum is a museum of the history of technology and tools that was located on Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street, 43, on the third floor of a building that also houses the Museum of the History of Arts and Crafts of Nizhny Novgorod Region. It was later incorporated into the Nizhny Novgorod State Historical-Architectural Museum-Reserve (NGIAMZ) as a branch.[1]
Collection
The museum's exhibition is devoted to old technology and tools: it houses foot-powered machine tools, engineless lathes and woodworking machines (driven by muscle power), antique calipers, clocks, phonographs and bicycles, including a cast-iron one. The museum occupies a single room; visitors can not only look at the exhibits but, if they wish, interact with them — staff would turn an old-fashioned barrel organ for guests and let them take a ride on a historic bicycle.[1]
Opening hours and inclusion in NGIAMZ
At the time the review was written, in 2014, the museum was open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., closed on Mondays; adult admission started at 150 rubles, and photography inside cost 50 rubles. The museum later became a branch of NGIAMZ; the composition of the exhibits had changed little by 2024, though the operating format was adjusted.
