The public organization "Strength Federation" of Nizhny Novgorod Region was a regional public association that developed three strength sports: powerlifting (the strength triathlon), arm wrestling (borba na rukakh), and kettlebell lifting. According to sources, the organization existed for about ten years up to 2004, meaning it emerged roughly in the mid-1990s.[2] It was registered as a legal entity on January 5, 2003 (OGRN 1035204612200, INN 5257029138); its legal address was 61A Gordeyevskaya Street, Nizhny Novgorod.[3] It was struck from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities on January 9, 2007, as an inactive legal entity.[3]

Activities

The organization brought together strongman athletes of Nizhny Novgorod Region, held competitions at the regional and interregional level, and also took part in cultural and mass events and show programs.[2] In December 1999, the federation organized the Governorate Powerlifting Cup at the Sverdlov House of Culture. The competition was officiated as a judge by Nizhny Novgorod native Maksim Guryanov, a 24-year-old athlete who had shortly before won gold at the World Championships in Trento (Italy) in the over-125 kg weight class with a total of 1035 kg (squat — 395 kg, bench press — 267 kg, deadlift — 372 kg).[1][4]

In December 2004, the federation, together with the management of the "Krasnaya Etna" Plant (an open joint-stock company), held the Open Cup of the Towns of Nizhny Novgorod Region in powerlifting in memory of Mikhail Rusakov at the Krasnaya Etna House of Culture (Leninsky District). More than 100 athletes took part in the tournament, including champions and medalists of Russian, European, and world championships.[2]

Leadership

From the time of its registration, the organization's president was Nikolay Gennadyevich Bagrov, an International Master of Sport of the USSR.[2][3] He was also the founder of the legal entity.[3] The registered contact address was given as 1 Balaklavsky Street (tel. 58-18-40, 48-87-63).[5]
