"Nizhny Novgorod" is a literary and arts magazine from Nizhny Novgorod, published since 2014. It is issued by the Knigi publishing house under the editorship-in-chief of Oleg Ryabov, and appears six times a year. The magazine continues the tradition of a publication of the same name that ran from 1997 to 2002: after a twelve-year break, the new magazine was registered on 20 February 2014, and its first issue came out in June of that year.[2]
Activities
The editorial board positions the magazine not only as a platform for Nizhny Novgorod authors but also as part of the all-Russian literary process. The pages of the magazine carry prose writers, poets, essayists, and literary scholars from different regions of Russia and from abroad. Among the authors whose names are mentioned in the magazine's materials are Gleb Gorbovsky, Igor Zolotussky, Viktor Sosnora, Igor Kublanovsky, Sergey Yesin, Roman Senchin, Zakhar Prilepin, Aleksey Ivanov, and others.[2] The magazine is distributed to 600 libraries across the Russian Federation.[2]
In addition to the main magazine, the Knigi publishing house produces a companion almanac, "Zemlyaki" ("Fellow Countrymen"), also available at the "Nizhegorodskaya Starina" shop (Beketov Street, 24/2) and by mail subscription.[1] By September 2026, at least 69 issues of the magazine and 40 issues of the "Zemlyaki" almanac had been published.[1]
Editorial Board and Publisher
The magazine's editor-in-chief is the writer and director of the Knigi publishing house, Oleg Ryabov; the executive editor is Andrey Iudin.[2] The editorial office is located at: Nizhny Novgorod, Beketov Street, 24/2. The magazine is available online at jurnalnn.ru, with issues posted for open access after the print version is released.[1]
In January 2026, the White Hall of the Nizhny Novgorod V. I. Lenin Central Library ("Leninka") hosted the traditional creative evening "Nizhny Novgorod Posidelki" (a gathering of friends and guests, in the old village tradition), which Oleg Ryabov holds after every New Year.[1] In September 2026, the editorial board announced an event marking the magazine's 30th anniversary, counting from the first magazine of the same name, published in 1997.[1]
