Nefedikha is a rural settlement in the Vorotynsky Municipal District of Nizhny Novgorod Region, on the right bank of the Volga near the border with Chuvashia and Mari El.[1][2] It belongs to the Semyany rural council, centred on the village of Semyany.[1] The 2010 census counted seven residents.[3] There is one street, also called Nefedikha, and about twenty house numbers.[4]

Where it is

The settlement lies about three kilometres north-east of Semyany and eleven kilometres south-east of the district centre, the urban-type settlement of Vorotynets.[5] The postal code is 606267; the post office is in Semyany, on G. Malov Street.[4]

In the address register of the tax service Nefedikha is listed as a rural settlement with OKATO code 22221844004; the all-Russian classifier of municipal territories assigns it code 22521000214.[4][6] The settlement has a single street bearing the same name, Nefedikha; the houses are numbered from two to twenty-nine.[4]

How many people

The 2002 census found thirteen people in Nefedikha — five men and eight women. By the 2010 census seven remained: two men and five women.[3]

The decline here is steeper than across the district. Over the same eight years the whole Semyany rural council shrank from 1,806 to 1,458 people, the village of Semyany itself from 848 to 803, and the entire Vorotynsky District from 21,844 to 19,411 residents.[3] That is, the district lost about eleven per cent of its population, and Nefedikha almost half.

The rural council

On 1 October 2009 a law of Nizhny Novgorod Region merged the Alexandrovsky and Semyany rural councils of Vorotynsky District under the common name "Semyany"; the village of Semyany remained the administrative centre.[1] The merged council took in twelve settlements, Nefedikha among them.[1]

  • the villages of Agrofenino, Alexandrovka, Ivanovka, Kekino and Ledyr[1]
  • the rural settlement of Nefedikha, the village of Nikolskoye, the rural settlement of Novinki[1]
  • the village of Semyany (centre), the villages of Staronikolskoye, Trishkino and Shokino[1]

The district around it

Vorotynsky District was created in 1929, during the change from uyezds to districts, out of the abolished Lyskovo uyezd; the village of Vorotynets became its centre and from November 1964 an urban-type settlement.[2] Until 1923 these lands belonged to the Vasilsursk uyezd, centred on the town of Vasil — today's Vasilsursk.[2]

Today Nefedikha is one of fifty-six rural settlements of the Vorotynsky Municipal District; there are two urban ones.[2] Separate rural councils no longer exist as bodies of government in the district: all settlements, Nefedikha included, are administered by the territorial development department of the district administration.[7]
