The Museum of History and Labour Glory of GAZ is a corporate museum of the Gorky Automobile Plant, opened on 10 October 1965. It is located at 95 Lenin Avenue, in the building of the plant's training centre. The nearest landmark is the main entrance to the OAO GAZ training centre, with the museum situated a few dozen metres from it.[1]
Exhibition
The museum occupies two levels. The second floor houses a historical and documentary exhibition devoted to the plant's history, its employees, and the plant's work during the Great Patriotic War. Archival photographs and documents sit alongside samples of military uniform and scale models of vehicles; among the exhibits is a fragment of an unexploded aerial bomb preserved since the war. The first floor presents a collection of automobiles produced by the Gorky Automobile Plant over the years: the cars stand on pedestals, polished to a shine. Of particular note among the exhibits are all-terrain vehicles, the representative "Chaika" limousines, and rare models — including the GAZ M-18 compact car. Wooden models of automobiles are arranged along the walls.[1]
Visiting
For a long time the museum operated only on working days, following the plant's schedule, which limited access for ordinary visitors. Later the opening hours were extended: as of 2024 the museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The admission ticket in 2024 cost 500 rubles for adults and 150 rubles for children — up from 100 and 50 rubles, respectively, in 2017. Guided tours are available; a separate tour including a visit to the operating production line is also offered.[1]
