Model libraries are a modern format of public library equipped with digital hardware, media zones, and educational spaces. In Nizhny Novgorod, they are being created as part of a nationwide program to modernize the library network. In Kanavinsky District, a model library was created at the Dostoevsky Library, opened in 1954, under the national project "Culture" with federal budget funding; renovation and equipment installation were completed in late 2021. The Dostoevsky Library uses RFID technology: sensors placed on books make it possible to quickly find titles on the shelf, check their availability, and monitor lending. The renovated library has coworking and quiet reading areas, as well as spaces for 3D modeling, 3D printing, and robotics classes, an art studio, and a theater studio; the interior is designed in a "honeycomb" / "staircase" style, symbolizing the path toward knowledge.[2][2][2]

Library named after the Leninist Komsomol (Sormovo District)

In December 2024, the largest model library in Nizhny Novgorod opened in Sormovo District — the Library named after the Leninist Komsomol, located at 28A Vasily Ivanov Street. The institution is more than 70 years old, and after its refitting it switched to a modern format.[1]

The library now offers access to numerous electronic catalogs, a video studio, a professional weather station, a children's biology lab, and a home planetarium. A separate area has been set aside for children, with game panels, robots, tablets, and easels, as well as the "Children's Reading Park" — a space for reading, play, and socializing. The opening was announced by the head of the city, Yuri Shalabaev, on his Telegram channel.[1]
