Kostarikha is a settlement and railway station in Kanavino District, between Moscow Highway and Berezovsky Settlement. The name may derive from the word "kostar" — a swindler who made a living by cheating at dice (Dal, 1979) — a nickname or characterization of the first settler. The settlement's name comes from a village of the same name, on whose site Hospital No. 39 was later built.[1] In the early 20th century the name was often written as Kustarikha and was linked to the kustar (handicraft) trades that the villagers supposedly practiced instead of playing dice. In the Soviet era, Kostarikha station was a major freight station; in the 2020s it serves suburban electric trains. Next to the station lies Bolnichnoye Lake, and the station itself is part of the Sormovo line of city commuter trains. The trip from Kostarikha station to Nizhny Novgorod-Moskovsky takes about 10 minutes; in the 2020s the route is served by several commuter trains during the day.[2][1][1]
