Kerchenskaya Street is a street in the Kanavino of Nizhny Novgorod, located in the Mescherskiy Microdistrict. The exact date of the street's origin is not specified in the sources; however, its current location corresponds to the territory where the famous Betancourt Canal ran in the 19th century, surrounding the Nizhny Novgorod Yarmarka on three sides.[1]
Connection to the History of the Nizhny Novgorod Yarmarka
The Betankur Canal, constructed in the early 19th century according to the design of engineer Augustin Betankur, ran near the present-day Kerchenskaya and Sovetskaya Streets — along the current boundary of the Mescherskiy Microdistrict. The canal surrounded the extensive yarmarka grounds on the eastern, western, and northern sides; water was fed into it from Meshcherskoe Lake.[1]
