Postnov Ivan Evstafyevich (born 27 December 1936) — head of the Department of Plant Protection at the State Agricultural Academy. Doctor of Biological Sciences, professor.

From 1962 to 1971 — junior research fellow in the Department of Biological Research at the Research Institute of Chemistry under Gorky State University; from 1971 to 1987 — senior research fellow of the microanalysis laboratory at the Research Institute of Chemistry; since 1987 he has worked at the Nizhny Novgorod State Agricultural Academy.

Main areas of scientific activity

Hydrobiological and ichthyological research of water bodies in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast; development of biological methods for monitoring physiologically active substances (heavy metals, pesticides, organic and organoelement compounds, mycotoxins, and others) in objects of the natural environment — water, soil, feed, and food products.

Key facts of his activity

In the 1960s he laid the foundation for the systematic development of ichthyological research in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. In the following decades a Nizhny Novgorod school of ichthyologists formed, continuing the research he had begun. Author of 14 inventions protected by inventor's certificates — biological methods for detecting toxic metal cations, cyanides, pesticides, and other physiologically active substances. The inventions have been put into practice for biotesting industrial wastewater at VNIIVODGEO, as well as for determining the toxicity of compound feed at Lindovskoye Poultry Farm JSC, the Sormovo fish farm of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, and other production and research organizations across the country.

Publications

Author of more than 140 scientific works, including 3 monographs and more than 10 textbooks, published, among others, in leading journals — "Hydrobiological Journal," "Journal of Analytical Chemistry," "Collections of the USSR Academy of Sciences Press," "Proceedings of Higher Education Institutions."

Membership in scientific and public organizations

Member of the Dissertation Council for the awarding of academic degrees at the Nizhny Novgorod State Agricultural Academy. Member of the Coordination Council for the Conservation of Biodiversity of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. Member of the Russian Scientific Hydrobiological Society. Awarded the medal "Veteran of Labor."
