The Essence of the Phenomenon
The not particularly resource-intensive but bothersome process mDNSResponder.exe, which typically installs itself in the computer's memory after Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Flash is installed, is suspected (and not without reason) of unauthorized collection of information about the local machine in the interests of Apple.
mDNSResponder.exe is the executable file of the Bonjour suite. This is a technology (and the software module of the same name) from Apple, representing a protocol for automatic service discovery, used in the Mac OS X operating system (starting with version 10.2), intended for use on local networks. Bonjour uses information (records) in the Domain Name System to discover other computers, as well as other network devices (such as printers), on the nearby network.
It is not included by default in Microsoft Windows operating systems, but is installed by the setup programs of iTunes, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Flash, and others.)
It manifests itself through periodic activity on hard drives and the local network: "as if someone were rummaging around."
Removing mDNSResponder.exe / Bonjour by Standard Means
Hacker-style methods of removing the Bonjour service are widespread on the internet, but there is also a standard removal method provided by the developers. Here it is:
1. Start -> Run -> "%PROGRAMFILES%\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exe" -remove If a console file manager is installed, such as Far, you can do the following: go to the folder C:\Program Files\Bonjour and run the command mDNSResponder.exe" -remove there
2. Go to the folder C:\Program Files\Bonjour and rename mdnsNSP.dll to mdnsNSP.old
4. Restart the computer
5. Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Bonjour
