The House of Actors is a professional cultural center for Nizhny Novgorod theater professionals. It was built and opened in Nizhny Novgorod on the initiative of, and with the direct participation of, Vikhrov, chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the Union of Theater Professionals (STD).

History of its creation

The House of Actors was built during the period of Vikhrov's active public work. From 1975 he headed the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the Union of Theater Professionals, and later became secretary of the STD of Russia and chairman of the regional board of the Union of Theater Professionals of the Volga Region. The construction and opening of the institution was one of the main results of his many years of work for the benefit of Nizhny Novgorod theater life. The building is located at 10 Piskunova Street, in the center of Nizhny Novgorod, near Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street, the city's main pedestrian thoroughfare. Visitors have at their disposal a cozy auditorium, a spacious foyer, a restaurant, and a bar.

The repertoire of the House of Actors includes performances, festivals, chamber concerts, kapustniks (informal cabaret-style theater evenings), and creative evenings; the venue is also used for experimental theater projects. The House of Actors has a library, and art exhibitions are periodically opened in the foyer, in particular solo exhibitions by Nizhny Novgorod artists.[3] The House of Actors hosts acting studios for children, and the hall can also be rented for outside events.[3] Themed festivals are held regularly at the House of Actors; in particular, its playbill lists the "ExtrAct Short Plays Festival" and the "Zhest Festival of Plastic Art and Pantomime."[3][1][1][2]
