«Gorky» is a Nizhny Novgorod men's volleyball club competing in the Russian Championship Superliga. The club's founder and legal basis is the Nizhny Novgorod Region Sports Clubs Association (ASK), registered at Lenin Avenue, 54A. The club has operated under its current brand since at least the 2025/26 season; previously it competed under the abbreviation ASK.[4]
History and Renaming
Historically, the team was known as ASK (Nizhny Novgorod) and competed consecutively in the Superliga in the 2023, 2024, and 2025 seasons, while the youth squad ASK-2 played in the Youth League.[4] Ahead of the 2025/26 season, the club renamed itself «Gorky» — in honor of the historic name that Nizhny Novgorod bore from 1932 to 1990. At the same time, a youth squad, Gorky-2, was formed to compete in the Youth League.[4]
Home Arena and Organization
The club plays its home matches at the Zarechye Sports Palace in Nizhny Novgorod.[1] The head coach for the 2026/27 season is Andrey Dranishnikov.[1] The club's official website is nn-volley.ru; it maintains a social media account under the handle @nn_volley.[1]
2026/27 Season Performances
During the preliminary stage of the 2027 Russian Cup, the club hosted the first round in Nizhny Novgorod: on 9 September 2026 it lost to Kuzbass (Kemerovo) 0:3, on 10 September it defeated Gazprom-Yugra (Surgut) 3:2 in five sets, and on 11 September it beat Yaroslavich 3:0 in three sets.[1] The second round of the Russian Cup preliminary stage was held in Surgut in late September 2026.[4] In the 2026/27 Russian Championship (Superliga), the club hosted Zenit (Saint Petersburg) at Zarechye in October 2026 and traveled to Saint Petersburg for an away match.[1]
