Dmitry Anatolyevich Kornilov (born May 3, 1976, in Gorky) is an economist, Doctor of Economic Sciences, professor at the Nizhny Novgorod Technical University, and academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences [1][2]. In 2009 he held a Candidate of Sciences degree and was an associate professor in the Department of Economics and Entrepreneurship; in the years since, he defended his doctoral dissertation, and the faculty where he served as deputy dean was reorganized into an institute [1][2].

Master's, Candidate's, Doctorate

He graduated from Nizhny Novgorod Technical University with a master's degree in Management [1]. By 2009 he was a Candidate of Economic Sciences and associate professor in the Department of Economics and Entrepreneurship, deputy dean of the Faculty of Economics, Management and Innovation for research and innovation affairs, and the author of more than forty-five publications [1].

His research area is business valuation and the valuation of industrial property assets [1]. He was already a member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences with the status of adviser at that time; today he is listed in the university's faculty directory as a full academician of that academy [1][2].

Kornilov is currently a Doctor of Economic Sciences and professor in the Department of Innovation Management at the Institute of Economics and Management. The institute itself was established on the basis of two former faculties — the Faculty of Economics, Management and Innovation (the very same FEMI) and the Faculty of Communication Technologies [2].

Automobiles as a subject of research

A notable share of his recent work has focused on light commercial vehicles — a segment that is anything but abstract for Nizhny Novgorod: it is the product line of the GAZ Automotive Plant and the GAZelle family.

In 2012, together with G. A. Morozova and N. F. Polyakov, he published "A Method for Determining Value Based on an Analysis of Consumer Characteristics" — examining how closely the price of a light commercial vehicle reflects its consumer properties [3].

A year earlier, his solo article "Product Competitiveness as a Function of the Correspondence between Consumer Characteristics and Price" had appeared, and in 2017 came the paper "Multi-Criteria and Multi-Level Selection Problems (Using Light Commercial Vehicles as an Example)," co-authored with M. N. Pervyshin and E. V. Kornilova; it proposes a "consumer-property tree" as a means of comparing options across multiple criteria simultaneously [4].

Citation record

According to his Google Scholar profile, Kornilov's works had been cited 647 times by 2026, with an h-index of 26 and an i10-index of 55 [5]. His citation peak came in 2016–2017, when his articles were referenced nearly two hundred times per year [5].

Among his regular co-authors, the profile lists Elena Neznyakhina, an associate professor at the technical university, and Gerasim Mkrtychyan from Vysshaya Shkola [5].

Institute instead of faculty

The Institute of Economics and Management of the Technical University was formed from two faculties — Economics, Management and Innovation, and Communication Technologies — and operates in the third building at 28 Minin Street [2].

It comprises six departments: Management; Methodology, History and Philosophy of Science; Public Relations, Marketing and Communications; Innovation Activity Management; Physical Education; and Digital Economics [2]. Kornilov works in the Department of Innovation Activity Management, which is headed by Doctor of Economics Dmitry Lapaev [2].

This department is not the only place in the university where economics is studied: five faculty members hold doctoral degrees in economics, four of whom are academicians of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences [2].
