Denis Chernevsky was a Nizhny Novgorod physician-geneticist who worked at the Privolzhsky Research Medical University (PRMU). He died on October 2, 2026, after seven years of fighting glioblastoma of the brain.[1]

Career

Chernevsky held the position of physician-geneticist at the Institute of Pediatrics of the PRMU University Clinic, and also served as an assistant professor in the Department of Faculty and Outpatient Pediatrics.[2] Through the PRMU Center for Medical Genetics, he consulted children and adults on matters of hereditary diseases, pregnancy planning, and genetic diagnostics.[3] His research focused on monitoring children with liver diseases of unclear origin; despite his serious illness, he completed and defended his candidate's dissertation.[4]

Alongside his clinical practice, Chernevsky ran the Telegram channel "Minutka Genetiki" ("A Minute of Genetics"), in which he explained complex medical topics in accessible language: covering genetic tests, rare diseases, the risks of hereditary conditions, and the possibilities of modern diagnostics.[3] Journalists noted his willingness to help a broad audience navigate the complexities of genetics.[3]

Colleagues remembered Chernevsky as an outstanding student: his classmates jokingly referred to their group as "the Healthcare Honor Students."[4] Despite his diagnosis, he continued to consult patients right up until the end of August 2026.[5]

Death and Farewell

Chernevsky's death was announced on the morning of October 2, 2026, by his wife in his dedicated Telegram channel.[3] Alexey Nikonov, editor-in-chief of Statsionar-Press, wrote in his own channel that Chernevsky had lived seven years with brain glioblastoma — longer than most people survive with that diagnosis.[1] His wife passed on his words: Denis asked those close to him not to cry, to love life, and to play songs by Filipp Kirkorov to remember him by his smile.[4]

The farewell ceremony took place on October 4, 2026. The funeral service was held at Church of the Myrrh-Bearing Women at 12:00, after which the ceremony continued in the mourning hall at Bugrovskoe Cemetery.[2]
