Goins Darryn (Darryn Goins; born January 5, 1988, Chester, Pennsylvania, USA) is an American professional basketball player, a point guard. In the 2018/19 season he played for BC Nizhny Novgorod in the VTB United League and the FIBA Champions League.

Career

From 2006 to 2010 he studied at Saint Joseph's University in Pennsylvania, playing for the Saint Joseph's Hawks in the NCAA. In his final year he averaged 13.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 31 minutes on the court per game. After graduating he went undrafted and played briefly in the D-League for the Reno Bighorns (the farm club of the Sacramento Kings), after which he moved on to European clubs.

Goins's European career included stints in Iceland (Þór Þorlákshöfn, 2011–2012 and 2015), Israel (Ironi Kiryat Ata, 2012–2013), Greece (Ikaros Kallitheas, 2013–2014), Hungary (Körmend, 2014; ZTE, 2015–2016; Falco Vulcano, 2016–2018) and Belarus (Tsmoki-Minsk, 2018). In addition to his American citizenship, Goins holds a Hungarian passport, which gives him the right to play for that country's national team.[2]

In the 2017/18 season, while a player for Falco Vulcano, Goins faced Nizhny Novgorod twice in the FIBA Europe Cup. In the home game at the Meshchersky sports complex he scored 15 points with 6 rebounds and 6 assists; in the return game in Hungary he scored 24 points. Over the Europe Cup group stage he averaged 19.8 points (56.3% on two-pointers, 41.5% on three-pointers), 4.4 rebounds and 5.3 assists. He set his personal efficiency record in the game against Macedonia's Karpoš Sokoli: 29 points, 11 assists, 8 rebounds and an efficiency rating of 45.

With BC Nizhny Novgorod

In November 2018, after his contract with Tsmoki-Minsk was terminated, Goins signed an agreement with BC Nizhny Novgorod through the end of the season. At the Nizhny Novgorod club he wore number 40. Head coach Zoran Lukić expected the American to relieve Ivan Strebkov and to form a pairing with Kendrick Perry after the latter's return from injury.

For Nizhny Novgorod Goins played three games in the VTB United League and three in the Champions League, averaging 7.3 points, 1 rebound and 2 assists per game.[1] In January 2019 the contract was terminated at the initiative of the player himself, who wished to return to Falco Vulcano.[1][2]
