Yevgeny (Vladimirovich) Chuprunov (b. March 10, 1951) — physicist, crystallographer, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, a prominent organizer of scientific, public, and modernization activity. Rector of Lobachevsky University since 2008.
Member of the regional political council of the United Russia" party.
Biography
Ye.V. Chuprunov was born on March 10, 1951, in the village of Igumnovo, Kstovo District of Gorky Oblast, into a family of teachers.
After finishing school, he entered the Physics Department of Lobachevsky University, from which he graduated in 1973 with a degree in Physics. In 1979 he was awarded the academic degree of Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.
Since 1989, Ye.V. Chuprunov has headed the Department of Experimental Physics. In 1991 he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.
The subject of his dissertation was "Symmetry, Features of Physical Properties, and Methods for Deciphering the Atomic Structures of Pseudosymmetric Crystals." In 1992 he was awarded the academic title of professor.
Over the years he held the positions of Dean of the Physics Department of UNN (1994–2006) and Vice-Rector for Research of UNN (2006–2008). Member of the International Union of Crystallography.
He has published more than 300 works on mathematical crystallography, the theory of crystal symmetry, X-ray structural analysis, the development of higher education, and other subjects, including 1 monograph, 8 textbooks, and 83 articles in domestic academic journals and their foreign equivalents, as well as inventions and patents.
Awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor (1976). Laureate of the City of Nizhny Novgorod Prize in Education (2002).
Married, has 3 children.
Useful Activity
March 10, 2011, marks the 60th birthday of the rector of Lobachevsky University), Yevgeny Vladimirovich Chuprunov. Under his leadership, in 2009 UNN named after N. I. Lobachevsky was granted the status of "National Research University" by decision of the Government of the Russian Federation, thereby duly recognizing UNN's contribution to the development of higher education and science that meets the highest international standards. In official rankings the university consistently ranks among the top ten universities in Russia, being the leading university in the Volga Federal District.
About 40,000 students study at UNN, including about 1,000 postgraduate and doctoral students.
Two UNN projects were among the winners of a competition for grants from the Government of the Russian Federation supporting scientific research led by leading scientists; a brain research laboratory and a world-class laser laboratory will be established at UNN.

- The state is increasingly generous to scientists: Ye.V. Chuprunov's university salary is 5 times higher than the salary of the President of the Russian Federation (336,000 euros a year against 67,000), and more than 3 times the salary of the Nizhny Novgorod governor, which is a local record: the Nizhny Novgorod Region has never before seen such support for fundamental science. Payments to the rector alone for the year at the State Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education "Nizhny Novgorod State University named after N.I. Lobachevsky," according to data from the regional election commission, exceeded 13,447,000 rubles as of 10.02.2011.
- By 2011, factoring in the rectorate's salaries, the average salary of teaching staff at UNN was 26,000 rubles. An assistant's salary is 4,700 rubles (a 13% tax must be deducted). A professor receives 18,000 with all bonuses, an associate professor 12,000.
