Casey Sheperd (born June 5, 1994) is an American professional basketball player who plays as a guard. He is best known for his performances with the Nizhny Novgorod basketball club "Nizhny Novgorod" (since 2020, with a break) in the VTB United League and the FIBA Champions League.[3]

Career in Nizhny Novgorod

Sheperd signed a contract with BC Nizhny Novgorod on June 22, 2020, arriving from the Turkish club Tofaş.[1][3] In his debut 2020/2021 season he became the team's leading scorer: in VTB United League games he averaged 24 minutes on the court and put up 14.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game; in regular-season games his scoring average reached 15.6 points.[3] In the Champions League, over six Top 16 games, his average stats were 20.5 points and 22.2 efficiency points.[3]

In April 2021, Sheperd was named MVP of the Champions League playoff round — one of his individual awards, which came alongside Nizhny Novgorod's advance to the tournament's "Final Eight."[1][3] In addition, the player holds the VTB United League record for points scored in a single quarter: on September 23, 2020, in a game against Khimki, he scored 26 points in 10 minutes of playing time — a record that remained unbroken.[3]

After the end of the 2020/2021 season, Shepherd left the club. In the period between his two contracts with the Nizhny Novgorod club (2021–2023), he played for Tofaş (Turkey, 2021/2022 season), then for Bahçeşehir University (Turkey) and Cluj-Napoca (Romania) in the 2022/2023 season, and immediately before returning to Nizhny Novgorod, for Israel's Hapoel Afula.[4] In December 2023 he returned: at age 29, standing 190 cm (6'3") tall and weighing 84 kg (185 lb), the guard signed a contract with Pari Nizhny Novgorod through the end of the 2023/2024 season.[1][2] In the summer of 2024, the player stayed with the club for one more season.[1] In March 2025, Nizhny Novgorod terminated the basketball player's contract. After the termination, Shepherd moved to the Israeli club Ness Ziona, and in March 2026 to the Bosnian club KK Bosna.[4][1]
