"Sunset Capital" is a city event in Nizhny Novgorod that has existed since at least 2022. It includes street events, concerts and sports races using light shows and city infrastructure.
History
In 2022, the "Sunset Capital" festival was included in the list of key summer events of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. Deputy Governor Oleg Berkovich mentioned it among 65 events for which funding was planned to be requested, at an average cost of about 8 million rubles each. The same list included a fireworks festival, concerts using the The Chkalov Staircase, and warehouse buildings (pakgauzy). Berkovich pointed out that the Nizhny Novgorod Region competes for tourist flow with Kazan, Crimea and Krasnodar Krai, and that systematic large-scale events are necessary to retain that flow.
Format and program
As part of "Sunset Capital," a night race of the same name is held. In 2026, during this race, a light show was projected onto a section of the fortress wall of the The Kremlin between the Georgievskaya and Borisoglebskaya Tower of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin. This section of the wall is systematically used as a screen for light projections during city events.
