The Bogorodsk City Forum is an online platform for residents and visitors of Bogorodsk, Nizhny Novgorod Region, operating at bgforum.ru. The forum has been active since 2003 and remains alive into the 2020s.[1][2] In addition to its forum sections, the site includes a classifieds board, a goods and services directory, webcams, and local history photo archives.

Sections and Topics

The core of the forum is the "City Forum" section — covering Bogorodsk news and events and addressing residents' pressing concerns. By 2026 it had accumulated 903 threads and more than 71,000 posts.[2] Separate sections are dedicated to job vacancies and employment offers (around 2,900 threads), private buy-and-sell listings, reference questions about local goods and services (more than 11,000 posts), as well as education, sports and leisure, automotive topics, the internet, and software.[2]

A significant portion of the site is occupied by the photo gallery — more than 6,300 threads and 43,000 posts. It features personal photo archives from several Bogorodsk photographers, including historical photographs by Yury Markov and photo reproductions by Viktor Guryev.[2] The "Information about Bogorodsk" section brings together local history articles, interviews, a city map, weather data, and a link for booking a doctor's appointment.

The most active informal section is "The Coffee House" (conversations on any topic): by 2026 it had accumulated more than 81,000 posts.[2] There are also sections for humor, personal ads, music and film, and forum games.

History

The forum was founded on 21 July 2003 by a third-year student of the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics, and was initially called "Visiting Pechkin." For the forum's second anniversary in July 2005, the administration organized an offline gathering of community members in Bogorodsk's old park; the event took place in two stages — on 22 and 29 July at 21:00.[3] Originally the platform existed as an informal resource for a small circle of young people with internet access. Until 2007 the forum operated at bg.nnov.ru: an archived copy of that address from 30 October 2003 captured the platform just months after its founding.[4] The switch to the domain bgforum.ru was proposed by one of the community members, on the grounds that this was what everyone was already calling the platform.[5][5][5] The earliest surviving archived copy of bgforum.ru itself dates to September 2007; by that time the forum had a chat, a telephone directory, sections about the city, a photo gallery, and technical threads.[1][1] Over the years the platform has grown considerably: the "Coffeehouse" section had around 20,600 posts in 2007, while by 2026 that number had exceeded 81,000.

By the forum's 10th anniversary in July 2013, it had 7,722 registered users, 225,516 published posts, and 9,452 threads; the administration described it as the very first, most popular, and most visited internet project connected with Bogorodsk. On 9 January 2012 the site presented the "Directory of Organizations of Bogorodsk and the District," created in partnership with the mapping service 2GIS; the information in it is regularly verified and updated.[5][5][1][2]

Rules

The forum operates under a unified set of rules binding on all participants. Prohibited are profanity, insults, deliberately false information, advertising without the administration's permission, copyright violations, flooding, and off-topic posting. The administration specifically stipulates that the forum is not a mass media outlet and bears no responsibility for the content of published posts.[6]
