Departure from the Post in Nizhny Novgorod Region

In August 2026, Akhmetshin left his post as head of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia (ID ICR) for Nizhny Novgorod Region. No official announcement of the resignation was published; the change in leadership was indicated by the disappearance of his name from the "Authority" section on the regional directorate's website.[1][4][3] Alexander Dynkov, who has been part of the regional directorate's leadership since 2020, is listed as acting first deputy head of the ID ICR for Nizhny Novgorod Region.[1][4] According to the Tatarstan publication Business Online, Akhmethin's next posting was expected to be the position of Chief Federal Inspector for the Republic of Tatarstan, though no official confirmation of the appointment had been received at that time.

Akhmethin's appointment as Chief Federal Inspector for the Republic of Tatarstan was formalized by a decree of Vladimir Putin, President of Russia.[5] On August 13, 2026, Akhmethin was officially introduced in the role of Chief Federal Inspector for the Republic of Tatarstan: Igor Komarov, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Volga Federal District, announced the appointment by his own order, and Rustam Minnikhanov, Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan, took part in the introduction ceremony; Akhmethin's predecessor in the post was Viktor Nikolaevich Demidov, whom Komarov thanked for his many years of service.

At the introduction ceremony, Plenipotentiary Representative Komarov noted in particular that Akhmethin was born in Kazan and is well known in the republic from his previous work in the prosecution and investigative bodies. The Chief Federal Inspector, by virtue of the office, reports directly to the presidential plenipotentiary representative and serves as the representative of the plenipotentiary's apparatus at the regional level.[5] The priority areas of joint work between the Chief Federal Inspector and the republican authorities were identified as the protection of critical infrastructure facilities, the implementation of national projects, support for military personnel and their family members, and the preservation of economic stability in the region and the district. Akhmethin's responsibilities in his new post include establishing cooperation between the territorial subdivisions of federal executive bodies and the state authorities of Tatarstan, local self-government bodies, as well as political parties, civil society organizations, and religious associations of the republic.[5][6] The ceremony was also attended by the heads of federal agencies, security services, and law enforcement bodies.[6][7][4][3]
