Artyom Nikolayevich Parakhovsky (born October 6, 1987) is a Belarusian professional basketball player, a center. He is connected with Nizhny Novgorod basketball through his time with BC Nizhny Novgorod in the 2014/2015 season, including in the EuroLeague.[1]

Career

He was educated in the United States, playing for the College of Southern Idaho (2006–2008) and Radford University (2008–2010), and was twice named the best player in the Big South Conference, in 2008 and 2010.[3] After finishing his studies he played for European clubs: in the 2010/2011 season for VEF Riga, in 2011/2012 for Budivelnyk Kyiv, in 2012/2013 for Olin Edirne in Turkey, and in 2013/2014 for Hapoel Jerusalem in Israel.[3]

Before the 2014/2015 season, Parakhovsky joined BC Nizhny Novgorod. Playing for the "black-and-whites," he competed in the EuroLeague, averaging 13 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game. During the season he set a career scoring high of 27 points in a single game and was named EuroLeague MVP of the week.[1] Analysts noted his key role in the team's defensive system: with Parakhovsky on the floor, Nizhny Novgorod allowed on average 12 fewer points (per 40 minutes) than without him. Opponents' two-point shooting percentage dropped by more than half while he was on the court.[2]

In July 2015, he terminated his contract with BC Nizhny Novgorod and signed with UNICS Kazan.[1] In the 2015/2016 season with UNICS, he won silver medals in the Russian championship and the VTB United League.[3]
