Urusov Andrey Satyevich was a Russian military officer and statesman of Tatar origin who served as voivode of Nizhny Novgorod in 1638–1639. He was born around 1585 and died in 1647.[2]

Origins and conversion to Orthodoxy

He came from the Tatar nobility: his father, Prince Satyy, lived approximately from 1565 to 1627. Andrey Satyevich himself bore the Muslim name Kasim-murza until 1615, when he converted to Orthodoxy in Kazan. After his baptism he received a house in Moscow and many estates.[2]

Service

By 1627 Urusov held the rank of Moscow dvoryanin (nobleman).[2] In 1638–1639 he held the post of voivode of Nizhny Novgorod; the clerk (dyak) who served under him was Pervoy Neronov.[1] In the list of Nizhny Novgorod voivodes, Urusov comes directly after Vasily Petrovich Sheremetev (1634–1638) and precedes Prince Andrey Andreyevich Khovansky.[1]

Family

He was married to Princess Maria Vasilyevna Tyumenskaya (born in the 1590s). They had a son, Prince Semyon Andreyevich (c. 1610–1657), and two daughters, Varvara Andreyevna and Irina Andreyevna, both born in the first quarter of the 17th century.[2]
