Kositsin (spelled Kositsyn in some official documents) Alexander Ivanovich (28 August 1916, village of Algasovo, Morshansk District, Tambov Governorate — 21 August 1983, Gorky) — foreman of the tool-setters' team for large stamping dies at the Gorky Automobile Plant, Hero of Socialist Labour (1966).[1]
The road to the plant
Alexander Kositsin was born into a peasant family; his father worked as a miner. In early childhood the family moved to Shakhty in Rostov Region, where Alexander finished seven grades of school and entered a mining trade school. When his father was assigned to the construction of the Gorky Automobile Plant, the family moved to Gorky: in 1933 Alexander graduated from the factory apprenticeship school attached to the automobile plant.[1] From 1934 he worked as a fitter in the tool and die building of GAZ, and from 1939 he headed a team in the large stamping shop.[2][1]
During the Great Patriotic War Kositsin's team continued working at the plant and was awarded the honorary title of "front-line team".[1]
Work achievements
Alexander Ivanovich became an unrivalled specialist in setting up multi-ton large dies made of hard alloys; under his guidance many workers mastered this difficult trade.[2] After the war the team took part in launching production of new trucks and cars. In 1951, for his active part in organising production of the high-class ZIM (GAZ-12) car, Kositsin was awarded the Stalin Prize of the second degree.[1]
Kositsin stood at the origins of the competition based on personal and team plans for raising labour productivity, and was among those who introduced personal savings accounts and cost-accounting methods of team work.[1] In October 1966, together with twenty-seven other leading workers — among them Heroes of Socialist Labour S. I. Kuznetsova and I. S. Permyakov — he initiated the "No one lagging behind" movement.[1] In May 1970 the Central Committee of the Komsomol awarded Kositsin the Lenin Komsomol Prize as one of the founders of this initiative.[2][1]
From 1972 Alexander Ivanovich held a personal pension of union significance.[1] In 1969 the Volga-Vyatka Book Publishing House issued a booklet about him by G. P. Pokhvisnev in the series "Heroes of Socialist Labour — Gorky Residents".[3]
Awards and public work
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of 22 August 1966, Alexander Ivanovich Kositsin was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labour with the Order of Lenin and the Hammer and Sickle gold medal — for outstanding service in fulfilling the tasks of the seven-year plan, participation in designing and organising production of new machines, and high production results.[1] In 1971 he was given the title "Distinguished Worker of the Automobile Plant".[2]
A member of the Communist Party from 1953. From 1954 to 1976 he was elected a deputy of the Gorky Regional Soviet of Working People's Deputies; in 1966 he was a delegate to the 23rd Congress of the CPSU.[1]
Alexander Ivanovich Kositsin died on 21 August 1983. He is buried at the Old Avtozavod Cemetery in Nizhny Novgorod.[1]
