Gankevich Aleksandr Dmitriyevich (born August 5, 1995, Moscow) is a Russian professional basketball player, a forward/center. A product of CSKA's youth system, he played for the Nizhny Novgorod club Pari NN ("Nizhny Novgorod") from 2019 to 2024, winning the Russian Cup with the team. He is 201 cm tall and weighs 109 kg.[2]
Sports career
He began playing basketball at the CSKA youth sports school (SDYuSShOR) in Moscow; his first coach was Dmitry Andreyevich Shchatskov. Within the CSKA system he played for the club's youth teams from 2011 to 2015. With CSKA-DYuBL he became champion (2012/13) and bronze medalist (2011/12) of the DYuBL, and he was named MVP of the "Final Eight" of the VTB United Youth League (2015). With CSKA-2 he won the VTB United Youth League twice (2015, 2016) and twice became Russian champion among youth teams in the BEKO PBL (2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons).[2]
In the 2015/16 season he played on loan for Ural (Yekaterinburg), in 2016/17 for Spartak-Primorye (Vladivostok), and in 2017/18 he returned to CSKA-2. In the 2018/19 season he played on loan for Temp-SUMZ-UGMK (Revda). In 2017/18 he played one EuroLeague game for CSKA, against Valencia.[2]
With Pari NN
In 2019 he moved to the Nizhny Novgorod club "Nizhny Novgorod" (later renamed Pari NN), where he spent five seasons. In the 2023 season he won the Russian Cup. In the 2023/24 season he appeared in 40 games, averaging 7.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game in almost 23 minutes of playing time. In April 2024 he was loaned to CSKA.[1][2]
In June 2024 the club announced the player's final departure: Gankevich used an option to exit his contract and continued his career at CSKA on a permanent basis.[1]
Return to CSKA and achievements
Since 2024 Gankevich has played for PBC CSKA, wearing number 5. With the "Army men" he became champion of the VTB United League and of Russia in 2024, 2025, and 2026, and won the WINLINE Basket Cup (2026). At the international level, he played for the Russian youth national team (U20) at the 2015 European Championship, for the cadet team (U16) at the 2011 European Championship, for the junior team (U18) at the 2012 and 2013 European Championships, and for the junior team (U19) at the 2013 World Championship. He holds the rank of Candidate Master of Sport.[2]
