The Territorial Center for Disaster Medicine of Nizhny Novgorod Region is a regional medical organization that coordinates emergency and aeromedical care across the Region. It has been operational since at least 2007. In July 2005, the operational headquarters of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Ministry of Health was established on the basis of the territorial disaster medicine service to coordinate all of the Region's medical services during the commemoration days of Serafim Sarovsky and Makariy Zheltovodsky in Diveevo and Makarevo. As part of the medical support for these events, the center deployed two round-the-clock emergency response teams and had the capability to use helicopter transport for emergency evacuation of casualties. To reinforce district medical facilities during mass events, center specialists were dispatched to hospitals in Arzamas, Diveevo, Ardatov, Pervomaysk, Voznesenskoye, Lyskovo, and Bor, where more than 600 beds were reserved for the simultaneous treatment of large numbers of casualties.[2][2][2][1]

Activities

The center's responsibilities include organizing assistance for road traffic accident casualties and evacuating critical patients by air ambulance. As of late 2007, two highway emergency medical teams were operating in Nizhny Novgorod Region — on the Nizhny Novgorod–Arzamas route (Novinki settlement) and the Nizhny Novgorod–Kirov route (Linda settlement). Over the eleven months of 2007, these teams made more than 750 call-outs and assisted approximately 1,000 road accident casualties.[1]

In December 2007, under the priority national project "Health," the center received two ambulance vehicles equipped for emergency medical care and patient transport to medical facilities. At the same time, under the Federal Target Program "Improving Road Safety," the center was provided with training equipment for practicing first-aid skills. The equipment was intended for training rescue workers, firefighters, militia (police) officers, public transport drivers, and a number of other categories of workers.[1]

Air Ambulance

The center coordinates the Region's air ambulance service. Since September 2018, the center's crews have carried out more than 2,600 flights and evacuated over 2,400 critically ill patients, including 272 children. In the first half of 2026 alone, the air ambulance service completed approximately 150 flights and transported more than 130 critically ill patients to hospitals.
