Death
On September 12, 2026, Gennadiy Spiridenkov died in Saint Petersburg. The tragedy occurred during a theatrical performance: the actor fell ill on stage, was hospitalized, and died in the hospital. At the time of his death, Spiridenkov had been billed in September performances of "Tales of Director Daneliya" and "Khanuma" in Saint Petersburg.[6][3] According to available information, the cause of death was a blood clot. Mikhail Levshin, the artistic director of the Komedianti theatre, recounted that a rehearsal had taken place before the performance, the actor had been in good spirits and appeared completely healthy; when Spiridenkov collapsed on stage, Levshin initially assumed he had improvised the fall as a piece of stage business — in the plot, the character discovers that women pay him no attention.[7] According to the actor's daughter Svetlana, the immediate cause of death was gastrointestinal bleeding: Spiridenkov suffered clinical death on stage, and in the hospital a blood clot broke free and blocked the pulmonary artery.
His colleagues promptly called an ambulance; two crews responded and managed to restore cardiac function, after which the actor was taken to the hospital, but the following morning news of his death became known; Mikhail Levshin announced that a farewell ceremony was planned to be held on the theatre's stage.[7][6][3] The circumstances of his death are described in the article "The Death of Gennadiy Spiridenkov."
