The boost-plane (razgonoplan) is an original proposal by Nizhny Novgorod space-exploration progressor Rastolkovsky, a glider with a water-jet engine capable of flying out into space. Wait, wait! That is far too bold a claim — it has no need whatsoever to fly out into space. The boost-plane could in the future be used to launch space carrier rockets as a zero stage of the rocket. This would save fuel, since it raises the efficiency of the orbital-launch process, even though the starting mass of the whole system would increase as a result. But that increase comes at the cost of water, and water is free. The fuel-saving effect is achieved by reducing gravitational losses — see the picture about this below. But the main application of the boost-plane is, all the same, airfield-free takeoff and landing of aircraft
